005 | Michelle Breyer | The Curl Revolution | From the Bay to $1Billion
About Michelle Breyer + This Episode:
Michelle Breyer shares her textured hair evolution; from accepting her, self-described, "JewFro" to finding a voice for textured haired women (and men) to commune.
Breyer grew up in northern California, in a time when curly hair wasn't considered "cool." The women in her home (Mom and Sister) had "iconic" straight hair. Her curls are credited to her Dad. Michelle was hair shamed by outside social pressures and rejected her own curly strains, she tried every straightening tactic possible.
This wife and mom, a former award-winning newspaper reporter, turned her pain and passion, into power. Today, a Media Mogul & Co-founder of the renowned e-commerce and social platform NaturallyCurly.com. NaturallyCurly's network now spends more than $1 billion annually on hair care.
Naturally Curly is an incubator - for consumers to voice their needs and manufacturers to listen and launch. They helped wearing natural curls cool, and it's here to stay.
Breyers debut book, "The Curl Revolution, Inspiring and Practical Advice from the Naturally Curly Community," officially launches October 3, 2017.
Legacy Mantra: We're Blessed to Have Textured Hair, it's Beautiful!
This Evolving Beauty talks Business, Beauty & Culture:
Michelle's Mom, Miriam, is a Hippie for life. Fresh faced and simple. A minimalist. Her Mom carries a backpack as a purse and has for many, many years. Michelle's beauty regimen is clean and simple, only slightly more enhanced than her Moms.' She focuses mainly on hair stylers to enhance her beautiful curls.
